Our very own Kerry Wyatt is starting the restoration process of his grandfather's 1965 Chevy pickup. We thought it would be fun to show you the process he takes to restore a classic vehicle. We plan on bringing updates over the months of the restoration. Here is the first update as Kerry describes the history of his grandfather's pickup.
"This pickup is a 1965 Chevy C20 Custom. It was purchased brand new by my grandfather and passed down to me.
I have always had a love for cars and have been especially interested in pickups/trucks in the past few years. I am going to begin the restoration process which most likely will take me several years because I will do all the work myself.
The pickup is fairly rare in that it has the 327 cubic inch engine with the 2 speed power-glide transmission with 4 barrel carburetor and power boost brakes. I am going to go mostly original with the frame off restoration but will want to add a few updates. I have not decided what all those are going to be yet, but that is half the fun of starting a restoration process. Although I plan a frame off restoration, I want to make it a daily driver.
One of the last times I road in this pickup, my grandfather, in his 80’s, did a doughnut or what some people call a cookie, with it in the Banner County Museums parking lot. I was not expecting that out of my grandfather since I had never actually seen or even heard of him doing anything like that before. As you can imagine, I was quite surprised and thought to myself, “right on grandpa, that was cool."
I am hoping this is something that can be handed down to my son and then my grandson someday."
