Weld Food Bank Awarded $5,000 Donation through Liberty Mutual® and Safeco Insurance®  Emergency Community Support Grants

Lori Granberg of Union Colony Insurance is Helping Give Back to Local Community During COVID-19 Crisis

Greeley, CO (June 22, 2020) – Union Colony Insurance is pleased to announce that Weld Food Bank (WFB) has received a $5,000 donation from Liberty Mutual and Safeco Insurance as part of an Emergency Community Support Grant to help independent agents give back to their local community during the COVID-19 crisis.

Nominated by Lori Granberg of Union Colony Insurance – the donation will go directly to Weld Food Bank, a nonprofit organization dedicated to leading and engaging their community in the fight against hunger.

“My team and I have worked with Weld Food Bank for several years on their annual Thanksgiving Turkey Drive, and we are incredibly thankful for Liberty Mutual and Safeco Insurance for providing extra funds to help the community when we need it most,” said Granberg. “Weld Food Bank has been significantly impacted by the COVID-19 crisis and the $5,000 donation will help them continue to make a difference to the community they serve.”

The $5,000 will be used towards weekly Mobile Food Pantry distributions at RE-6 Greeley/Evans schools. In the first two months of the food bank’s COVID-19 response, they experienced a 150% increase in the number of people served through the Mobile Food Pantry program. This distribution site specifically targets families that relied on their school’s Free & Reduced Lunch program as well as before and after school meals.

According to Bob O’Connor, Chief Executive Officer at Weld Food Bank, “We are very grateful to Lori and Union Colony Insurance for helping to secure this very generous gift for Weld Food Bank. The impact of this donation will translate into 20,000 meals for our neighbors struggling with hunger. It’s through incredible partnerships like this that make our job a lot easier.”

“It just made sense to nominate WFB,” said Granberg, “The programs they operate truly align with the mission of the Emergency Community Support Grants provided by Liberty Mutual and Safeco.”

“The goal of the Emergency Community Support Grants is to help our independent agents make an immediate impact during this critical time in the local communities where they live and work,” said Alexis Holzer, Program Lead for Independent Agent Giving at Liberty Mutual and Safeco Insurance.
